Ritek Redux

I went back and retested most of my last two 50 pack spindles of Ritek 8X DVD+R media using KProbe2. Found a total or 34 unusable or way-out-of-spec disks so far. That’s a ridiculous amount, considering that prior to this I’d have maybe 1 or 2 disks per 100 as bad burns at most with Ritek media. Meanwhile, no problems at all with the various new media I bought for testing (Maxell, Benq, Philips, and Sony). Goodbye, Ritek. Let me know when you’re out of rehab.

  1. Gosh, that is horrible. I was at a place called http://QtcCdr.com a while ago that sell Ritek media in a store (near the OC SNA airport) and first heard about them at the LA Computer Fair shows. It is the only place that I know of that will take back the bad media pieces and replace them.

I just checked qtccdr.com now and found they have 100 pieces of Taiyo-Yuden (they OEM for Fuji I believe) 4x DVD-R for $29.99 USD. Too bad they are not +R. I keep seeing Sony 8x DVD+R for 25 for $10 USD (no rebate; at Staples and Walgreens!) every now and then.

I have only had my Plextor PX-504UF (+R/+RW only, Ext. USB 2.0/FW 400) give me one bad burn out of the couple hundred burns (200+). But then again, I have only used Sony 8x, Maxell 4x, TDK 4x DVD+R media to date.
